3 years blogiversary & Italian paper give away

Welcome back to Boxwood Cottage dear blogging friends and readers! I'm back from Italy since a few days and before I'm off again to see my cousin and my sister at the countryside this weekend and then off again to Athen in Greece next week for a couple of days, I'd like to celebrate with you my 3 years blogiversary. I started my blog in September 2005 although it feels much longer than that. My first posts even were in German language, but I quickly realised that I'll reach much more interesting people by blogging in English. I have met so many fantastic and creative women from all over the world on this journey for which I'm more than thankful! I feel so connected to you through my blog and since a year to my flickr too that I wont want to miss this anymore!

Well I'm a bit in a hurry today so I better stop chatting and go on with this post. I felt like sharing with you some inspirational pictures from my new fave Italian city which with no doubt is Venice now. Above you see some lil treasures I brought home from my Italy journey. My fave place to shop was a Paper shop called Il Papiro in Venice and I thought to celebrate my 3 years blogiversary I'll also share some papers from Il Papiro and other lil Italian treasures with you:

To win my blogiversary Italian paper give away in the photo above you simply have to leave a comment under this post and let me know which of the Venice photos I'll show you now you like best:

The basilica of San Marco with the Lion of San Marco as it's symbol looks like it comes straight out of a fairy tale to me:

I was also stunned by the beautiful details of the Venician palazzos. This is a close up of the Doge's palace. See the the shades the sun sent through the pattern?

The next palazzo is called Ca' d'oro and it looks like precious lace to me:

The lion of San Marco again:

A shop window with very artistic masks:
Loved the silhouettes the Venezian lanterns made and the pink glass:

Isn't this a gorgeous balcony, just look at these fairy tale like windows:

The huge chimneys you can see on these houses you already find in medieval paintings:

Oh to own such a beautiful rose garden at a canale in Venezia must be a dream:

As always you just have to doubleclick on my photos to enlarge them and see all the details, the photo above for example is huge!

I didn't do a Gondola cruise, it's too expensive, 100 Euros for 15 minutes yikes, we used the Vaporetto instead which is the waterbus in Venice and drives all along the Canale Grande so that you have lot's of time to enjoy the sights along:

In the picture above you see the water street were we had our beautiful B & B appartement and below is the famous Rialto Bridge, photo taken from the Vaporetto:

Well that's all for today my friends, I'll have to hurry up now because my cousin Stefanie is waiting for me with breakfast and it's an hour drive to go to her.
I'll pull the winner out of my Vintage chapeau clac when I'm back from Greece next weekend.
Until then have a fabulous start into the cooler Autumn season!
Hugs xox

Ok, how does a girl choose. I love each one. What a great place to visit. The buildings are amazing! You took some great pictures! If I have to narrow it down (which I'm having a hard time doing)I'd say the first photo, the basilica of San Marco. But then the Venezian palazzos is wonderful also...

Congratulations on your 3 year blog anniversary. Three years is an impressive time in which you have shared photos of your beautiful world with us. Your garden is such an inspirations! And the photos in this entry... they make me want to jump in an aircraft straight away and fly to Venice. To choose one favourite photo of all the lovely ones is not easy, but I did really like the one of the beautiful balcony, and the lovely colour of the house. Just lovely!

Congratulations on your 3 yr blogiversary and what an amazing trip you had. The palazzo's remind me of lace with all of their graceful details, however my favorite picture has got to be the Veneitian lanterns with the pink glass. They're just gorgeous! What a beautiful street that must be! Can't wait to see how beautiful Greece is! Thank you!

Carol, your photos are beautiful! I have terrible wanderlust for Italy...I was in Rome in 2006 and it just wasn't enough time to explore the beauty...as for my favorite picture, it has to be the lightposts with their lovely glass. Very pretty photo! Have a grand time in Greece...wish I was there!

Congratulations on your three year anniversary! How fantastic for you that you have been able to travel to such gorgeous places! I would love to be able to travel that way!

I love all of your pictures. I think, though, that I like the simplicity and subtle beauty of the latern picture! I love the color of the glass, it reminds me of my Mother's antique cranberry glass when the light shines through it!

Thank you for sharing all this beauty with us!

Congratulations on 3 years! It was hard to choose a favorite photo because they are all spectacular. But I think my favorite is the 7th one down - the house right on the water - all that beautiful white trim. Ooohhh. I wish I could live in that house!

Hallo Carola,
Herzlichen Glückwunsch also zum 3. Bloggeburtstag und vielen Dank für die vielen schönen bilder und Inspirationen!
Liebe Grüße, Monika

Congratulations on your anniversary! I am about to have my first and understand the close friends many of us have made while blogging.

Your trip looked wonderful. My favorite photo has no caption, but is the 17 photo down. It is just the beautiful water in front of a building and you can just imagine being there, looking at the beautiful views of a new place, the warmth of the sun, and the sound of the water as it splashes about. The way you just take a deep breath in and soak it all in and have a great, relaxing exhale. Sorry, can you tell I haven't been on vacation for a while. In desperate need of one so thank you for sharing yours with me.

Hope you will pay me a visit!

Great to have you back, though it's only for one post lol! But what a post again! I went to Venice last year and I was very impressed too. I think it's more fun than Rome and Florence together! As always you took some marvelous pictures, they are all great, but the second Venice picture of part of the Doges palace with that sunlight is the best in my opinion. Congrats on 3 years blogging! I like your souvenirs of Venice too. Have a great time in Athens as well, lucky you!

Carol, Congratulations on your anniversary! The photos from your trip are marvelous! I spent a college year in Heidelberg back in 1982 and loved Venice when I visited. That was a long time ago, but Venizia looks like she hasn't aged a bit. Love the balcony with the flowers the best! Fingers crossed on the drawing! - Amy Bauer

My favourite photo is the close up of Doge's palace, I wish I had a blown up copy of that and the balcony photo in my bedroom - magical! I love what you're offering for your give away, a little taste of Venice for those who can't get there. Thanks Karen

Those palazzos do indeed look like beautiful lace! I bet they'd look stunning done in quilling (I think that's what it is called... pictures made out of curled up tiny strips of paper). You sound like you had a marvelous time in Italy! =) I hope your time in Athens is wonderful and that you are able to take some photos! hugs to you, Carol!

But, at the chance of winning something, if I must pick... I'm partial to shadows and silouttes, so I'd have to select the siloutte photo! Gorgeous!

Happy third blogiversary!
Hope you're having a fun holiday!

Congrats on 3 lovely years! What beautiful pictures of your trip to Italy. Only 1! They are all so wonderful. It is like we are there with you. The water on the canals, the rose garden, the lacey buildings, but my favorite has to be the simplicity of the the gorgeous blacony with the flower boxes and the beautiful architecture. All of the vivid colors, so inviting. I hope you have a Grand time in Greece and share this with us too. Can hardly wait for more.

If I had to pick one picture it would have to be the gorgeous balcony with the fairy tale windows. How magnificent they are- I can imagine myself on that balcony looking at the magnificent scenery and dreaming of the days when this was all built! What a time that must have been...
Great giveaway- so thoughtful of you to share such treasured keepsakes. Thanks.

Wow what a trip! I've only traveled to Italy via the "Under the Tuscan Sun" movie so to see these photos is a real treat. This is the one place I've always dreamed of visiting but I'm working on that so hopefully one day in the future :)

All the photos are lovely but I think I love the rose garden one best. I can picture myself sitting there while sipping tea and taking in the views. This is a very lovely giveaway and thank you so much for including me in it.

Been enjoying reading your posts and I'm off to read some more.
